Our Philosophy
We'll say the thing other firms won't.
If you've been researching architects for a while, you've probably started to feel like they all sound the same. Passionate about design. Committed to excellence. Here for your vision. We're not going to say any of that.
What we will say is this: building a custom home is one of the biggest things you'll ever do, and the fear that you might trust the wrong firm and ruin it is completely reasonable. A lot of people have had that experience. We started this firm to be the answer to that fear.
So we treat the design process as something worth doing well in its own right — not just a means to a finished building. We take on everything difficult, technical, and tedious: permit coordination, consultant management, building-department back-and-forth, construction oversight. What's left for you is the good part — showing up for the design conversations, telling us what excites you, and making decisions you feel genuinely prepared for. Every meeting is set up so you walk in with context, not confusion.

The Process
Six phases, start to finish.
What happens at each one, what you do, and what you get. This is the whole arc — from the first conversation to the day you move in.
Discovery & Programming
What Happens
Before we draw anything, we spend real time understanding how you actually live — daily routines, how rooms really get used, what's worked and what never has in your current home. If you're building here but living elsewhere, Nathan flies out and spends a day in the home you live in now. Site analysis follows once a lot is identified.
What You Do
Tell us about your life — really. The homework here is the best kind: collecting images of homes, rooms, and details that speak to you. Most clients say this phase alone taught them things about their own taste they didn't know.
What You Get
A written program that defines the home in terms of spaces, adjacencies, and priorities — the design brief that guides everything from here, and the first sign that someone truly listened.
Schematic Design
What Happens
First sketches and concepts based on the program. We explore two or three design directions and present them with hand drawings and early 3D models.
What You Do
Review the concepts and give us honest reactions. This is where your input shapes the direction most — don't hold back. We treat revisions as getting closer, never as criticism.
What You Get
A chosen direction — and the moment almost every client describes as the best part of building a home. Seeing your life translated into space for the first time is genuinely exciting. We make sure you feel that.
Design Development
What Happens
The chosen concept gets developed in full detail: floor plans, elevations, key interior spaces, material palette, window and door schedules. Structural and MEP disciplines are brought in and coordinated here. You'll walk through a photorealistic 3D model of your home — not a sketch you have to squint at.
What You Do
Review and approve the developed design. Make material and finish decisions with our guidance — prepared, never rushed.
What You Get
A complete, coordinated design. What you see is what gets built.
Construction Documents
What Happens
The full permit and construction set — every detail documented across all disciplines in our BIM model, with specifications, schedules, and notes. A permit can be issued from an eight-sheet set; a buildable, biddable home takes closer to a hundred. This is where our documentation standard protects your budget.
What You Do
Very little at this stage — we're heads-down producing. One review at 90% complete for any final adjustments.
What You Get
A complete set of construction documents, thorough enough that builders bid accurately instead of padding for ambiguity.
Permitting
What Happens
We submit to the building department and manage the review — responding to comments, tracking status, and coordinating with the reviewer. Because the set is coordinated before submission, reviewers don't find the conflicts that stall other projects.
What You Do
Sign the permit application. Otherwise, we handle it.
What You Get
An approved building permit. Construction can begin.
Construction Administration
What Happens
We don't disappear once the permit is issued. We represent your interests through construction — site visits, submittal reviews, RFI responses within 24 hours, payment-application reviews — catching issues before they become change orders.
What You Do
Make any remaining selections (finishes, fixtures, hardware) on the schedule we provide at the start of this phase.
What You Get
A finished home that matches the design — exactly. And a relationship with an architect who knows your home inside out. Most of our clients stay in touch long after they move in.
What We Promise
You will always know what's happening.
Regular updates. No surprises. If something changes, you hear it from us first.
We will never leave you waiting.
Questions get answered fast. You'll never wait more than a business day to hear back — and it's usually much less.
We will protect your budget.
Our documentation is how we do that. Thorough drawings mean accurate bids and fewer change orders.
We will tell you the truth.
Even when it's not what you hoped to hear. Especially then.
What "complete documents" actually means.
Not all construction documents are created equal — and this is where fee comparisons between architects quietly fall apart. A permit can be issued from an eight-sheet drawing set. Plenty are. But an eight-sheet permit set is not a hundred-sheet set of construction documents. Eight sheets leave hundreds of decisions unanswered: how the window head gets flashed, how the shower is waterproofed, where the tile meets the wood floor, what the cabinet elevations actually look like.
Every one of those questions gets answered eventually — either by us, on paper, before bidding, or by the contractor, in the field, on your invoice. Our sets detail every connection, every waterproofing condition, every interior elevation, every flooring transition — specified and coordinated across every discipline. When you compare architects, ask to see a sample set. The difference between eight sheets and a hundred is the difference between a bid and a guess.

They do sometimes. Site conditions turn up something unexpected. A family situation changes the program. The budget needs to shift. Here's how we handle it: we tell you immediately, we show you the options, and we make a decision together. We document scope changes in writing. We never spring surprises on you and we never run up fees without your approval. The process is yours as much as it's ours.
